Industrial and marinas play a crucial role in the economy, trade, tourism, logistics and industry all over the world. Maritime transport is growing rapidly, with ships becoming ever larger. To maintain and grow the (regional) economic position, it is of great importance to keep ports accessible. For the growing recreation on and around the water, there is increasing demand for modern, safe and well-facilitated marinas.
Van den Herik has over 75 years of experience in all kinds of work in and around ports. From complete expansions to maintenance work. In world ports such as Rotterdam or Hamburg, but also in regional ports such as Gorinchem, Yerseke and Bergambacht.
As a dredging specialist, Van den Herik is the partner of choice for deepening and maintaining ports. The versatility of our equipment enables us to perform a variety of work.
During the construction of the SIF quay in the Port of Rotterdam, our trailing suction hopper dredger, in conjunction with crane barges, deepened the harbor in front of the new quay. This within a complex schedule, taking into account the ever-present shipping as well as the activities ashore.
With maintenance dredging, we keep ports and navigation channels at the desired depth and ensure that they are always accessible. Using the latest survey techniques, we keep a close eye on the depth.
In maintenance dredging, we use thorough preparation, planning and communication to ensure that port activities experience as little inconvenience as possible. One example is the deepening of the Ems channel for which we recently entered into another two-year maintenance contract.
As a total contractor, we recently completed the overnight ports in Gorinchem and Bergambacht. Together with the Municipality of Reimerswaal, we worked out the design for the port area around the Prince Willem-Alexanderhaven and the Princess Beatrixhaven in Yerseke in a construction team, starting work in 2024.
For the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee, we realized a temporary plateau in the marina of Herkingen. This platform served as a staging area for a crane that hoists vessels in and out of the water. Within a few weeks we carried out research, design and realization, so that the construction was in use before the start of the boating season.
