As a family business, we look at the long term. We do not allow ourselves to be seduced by just quick wins, but also commit to innovation and investment for the future. This is how we take responsibility for society and the next generation. We do business in a socially responsible way and we do this by considering sustainability and safety in the broadest sense of the word in our projects and processes.
We create space
Space for water, space for land and space to live. As a family business, we strive for continuity, with sustainability being a natural fit.
Our focal points are:

We believe it is important to be innovative, including in the area of sustainability. A great example of this is our partnership with The Great Bubble Barrier®. As a technical partner of this startup, we are working to clean up our rivers.
Health and Safety
In the context of sustainable deployment of our people, health and safety in and around the workplace plays an important role. As a company, we make every effort to ensure that our employees can perform their duties in a healthy and safe environment. We believe it is important that our people feel physically and mentally safe while working. In addition, we want everyone to return safely to family and friends at the end of the workday.
Safety Culture Ladder
Using the Safety Culture Ladder, formerly known as the Safety Ladder, we work continuously to improve safety. We try to prevent unsafe situations and (near) accidents. We do this by raising safety awareness and improving safety attitudes and behaviors. Initiatives we have taken in addition to regular things like toolbox meetings and audits include:
The Charlock is a hopper dredger certified Clean Ship.
Making equipment fleet more sustainable
The emissions from our ships is one of our biggest challenges. Adapting and renewing our equipment is therefore an ongoing process to which we devote a great deal of attention and money. In making our assets more sustainable, we are taking a big step forward. Much of our fleet is already equipped at least with stage V engines. Two ships and one floating crane are already made electric in the base, they can be modularly powered by stage V or hydrogen generators, or can be (partially) battery or plugged.
We recently added two all-electric crawler excavators to our equipment fleet. Our own technical department is particularly inventive and innovative. They constantly modify our equipment so that we can continue to carry out our projects optimally and ever more sustainably.
Sustainable building
Our beautiful office building, located on the Beneden Merwede in Sliedrecht, is over eighty years old. Nevertheless, it meets today’s requirements. We also invest in the sustainability of our building and are therefore proud of the A+++ status in terms of sustainability and electricity consumption.
In line with our sustainability efforts, we achieved the CO₂-Aware certificate level 5 of the CO₂-Performanceladder in 2016. Since then, we have been operating at this highest level. Our latest innovation in this area is the Prince ZEs – our Zero Emission dredger.
