• The Great Bubble Barrier Amsterdam

  • Constructive engineering

November 2019 the world’s first rubbish barrier made entirely from bubbles, called Bubble Barrier, has been unveiled in Amsterdam in an attempt to catch waste in the city’s canals before it reaches the North Sea.

Van den Herik placed the innovative and clean ‘Bubble Barrier’ for The Great Bubble Barrier, who received the order from The Dutch Waterschap Amstel, Gooi en Vecht and the municipality of Amsterdam. Van den Herik was selected after a successfull test-pilot with a Bubble Barrier earlier in Kampen, The Netherlands, and also manages the waterworks around the Amsterdam Bubble Barrier project.
